We’ve partnered with the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center and the City of Wichita to provide free bus rides to any veteran with proper ID.
REMOVING TRANSPORTATION BARRIERS
Veterans Ride Free allows veterans to ride any Wichita Transit bus or Q-line FREE of charge. The goal of the program is to remove transportation barriers for veterans. Veterans can use public transportation for any reason – appointments, getting to work, shopping, social visits or legal needs. All you need is a valid Kansas Driver’s License or Kansas ID with a veteran designation, a veteran health ID card, veteran ID card or retired military ID card when you board.

A veteran had been homeless for the past 30 years. He traveled city to city, experiencing extreme disconnect from society. The Veterans Ride Free program has helped him gain access to resources to find housing and allowed him to build needed connections. He’s been able to attend cancer treatments and mental health appointments, and access grocery stores and local banking institutions. He has even reunited with family he had not seen in over 20 years. Without this program, it’s likely the same cycle of homelessness and isolation would have continued. Veterans Ride Free is making a difference in the lives of veterans.
