United Way Youth Days of Caring gives students opportunity to volunteer during spring break

  •
  •

WICHITA, Kan., Feb. 24, 2010 —Students throughout the area are invited to spend part of their spring break, March 15–19, helping local nonprofit organizations—projects include painting, repairing a playground, cleaning flower beds, assisting adults with disabilities, and much more.

It’s all part of the 17th annual United Way Youth Days of Caring. Students can participate in volunteer projects throughout the week, from Monday through Friday.

Students may choose from among a total of 40 projects at 25 nonprofit organizations. All participants will receive a United Way Youth Days of Caring T-shirt.

“It’s always great to see young people helping others during their spring break,” said Patrick J. Hanrahan, United Way of the Plains president. “United Way Youth Days of Caring is more than that, however; it’s about introducing students to a lifelong habit of service.”

Projects are available for middle school and high school students (minimum age 12, depending on the project) and can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Contact the United Way Volunteer Center at 267-0202 for more information or to get a copy of the Youth Days of Caring Guide. The guide is also available at www.unitedwayplains.org/youthdaysofcaring. Signup ends March 9.
