2013 Community Needs Assessment
The environmental scan is a view of our community and service area based on data supplied by a wide range of organizations at the national, state and local levels. The report consists of seven subsections: Demographics; Education; Economic Outlook; Crime; Housing; Life Cycle; and Health Care and Health Access.
Covers Sedgwick, Butler, Cowley, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Reno and Sumner counties.
The Needs Survey gathers data from three sources:
- Community Respondents: a random sample of residents of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area (e.g., Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey and Sumner counties) plus Reno County. NOTE: Kingman County was added to the Wichita MSA after the survey was conducted.
- Community Leaders: elected and/or appointed government officials and presidents/chief executive officers from the area's largest businesses
- Agency Executives: chief executive officers of social services agencies throughout the area
The Priority Study is a result of the reviewing needs assessment data to establish priorities for the allocation of United Way resources. This study will assist the United Way Board of Directors and various United Way committees in awareness, planning, funding, coordination and general provision of services to the community.
This is an addendum to the full Community Needs Assessment--showing a summary of survey responses from Butler County residents.
Additional information concerning research findings, definitions, survey methodology, verbatim responses, etc. is available in the full 2013 Community Needs Assessment.
